|| Top 23 Moments of 2013 ||

Another year has come and gone and I can whole hearterdly say that 2013 has been the best year of my life. A friend challenged me to make my "Jordan Year" -- I'm 23 -- the best ever and I'm preeeettyyyy sure I lived the hell out of my Jump Man season. In no particular order these are my favorite moments, decisions, and mindset changes of 2013:

1. K2 Volleyball Season
2. Chucking the dueces to people who don't contribute to making me a better person
3. Exploring new cities with a YOLO mentality
4. Appreciating good food/expanding my taste buds
5. Working at Buzz Nabers Dental Studio
6. Taking on Vegas with 10-15, 25-30 year old men as the only girl. <Talk about entertainment>
7. Running all over Miami with my two favorite goons in love.
8. Training with Charlie Petrone
9. Meeting the man of my dreams in the most appropriate place: the gym.
10. April 2 & JT's 20/20 Experience
11. Experiencing the "other side" of Tennessee Volleyball Camp as a coach
12. Lollapalooza
13. Deciding to play professionally in Finland
14. Catching the European travel bug
15. Losing myself and finding out who I am and what I want from my life
16. Attending my first NFL game
17. Actually being social on a plane and meeting some awesome people
18. Surprising my family for Christmas
19. Graduating with my Master's degree in Sport Psychology
20. Becoming a family with my K2 girls
21. Repairing damaged relationships
22. Finishing my final Master's project
23. My mom being 1 year cancer free!!

As you can see, this past year was about as legit as it gets and I plan on making 2014 EVEN better. How you may ask? By surrendering to what I want to without any doubts. In 2014 I chose to live and love fearlessly. Let gravity take hold of my desires and continue to make steps towards the person I want to be while creating the life I want to live. Sure I plan on eating better, staying fit and saving money but those are a given. This year will be about giving myself to those I love, my community and investing in opportunities and organizations I find worthwhile.

How will you make this year count?

!! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE !!

How I Pulled Off the Best Christmas Surprise

No, you did not read the title wrong. I was back in the U.S. of A. for Christmas! The “original plan” was for me to the Ukraine to visit one of my friends but I really had been staking out in Cincinnati since the 17th. I was given the opportunity to come home and see my loved ones, I couldn't say no. For those who know me, I'm the surprise QUEEN. Throughout college I was always able to surprise my family on the holidays and birthdays, you already know I couldn't pass this opportunity for the ULTIMATE surprise let alone swallow the thought of spending Christmas away from my family.

Keeping this surprise was very hard due to the large amount of travel it required. In order to make it work I had to create a fake itinerary to send to my family and alert them that my phone wouldn't work outside of Finland in order to make up for the time I would be spending on the plane without wifi. Well, my cover almost got blown when my travel day turned cray. Between boarding planes, maneuvering foreign airports -- literally -- and the lack of wifi, my family started to panic when they hadn't heard from me for about 12 hours. I usually text everyone when I board and land so they know I'm alive...thought I'd stir it up a little by not having a moment to contact anyone until I landed in Chicago. Whoops. Anyway, it all worked out! It was so weird being back in the States; seeing a normal outlet and hearing English. I think what I was most glad to see was the dollar sign!

While at home I made sure to take full advantage of everything I missed. Chipotle, naturally, was my first stop followed by sushi, Jimmy John's, Cheesecake Factory and Mama's cooking. The first surprise was for my sisters in Cincinnati. They came down for a Bengals game where I surprised them at the hotel they would be staying at the night before the game. Lots of screaming and tears. After a night out and the game, my sisters headed back to Cleveland to get everything into place to surprise my mom. My mom didn't expect my boy to show for Christmas dinner, let alone her own daughter, so my sisters had to make sure enough food would be prepared. On Christmas Eve morning I boarded the Greyhound up to Cleveland where my sisters scooped me and we headed home for the biggest surprise. Now, my mom is pretty hard to catch off guard but BOOOYYYY did we get her!! In order to get my mom out of the house we acted like one of our dogs, Bella, had ran away while my youngest sister was walking her -- this actually happens pretty often with our dog. My mom came out of the house, lounge clothes and all, to find me holding our beloved Bella. Shocked is the only word I can use to explain her reaction. I've seen my mom cry one time I'm her life, you can imagine my joy when I saw tears start to form in her eyes as she realized I was actually home for Christmas. The best part: when my mom said "I don't have any presents for you". Hahaha, priceless.

Truly, this Christmas was the best one as far as I can remember. To be able to spend time with my family and my awesome boy made my week perfect. When I first thought I wouldn't be able to come home I was really excited to travel throughout Europe and see my friends but as December crept closer and our break was in sight, I was very glad to be going home. Being able to simply relax in a familiar environment isn't only reenergizing, it's motivating.

Since I pulled of the most epic surprise I've ever planned to this date, I'm not really sure how I will top this one...but I'm sure I'll think of something.

Hope everyone had a great holiday!

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER: Game Review

So I FINALLY decided to update my blog. I apologize to those who keep up with my life overseas frequently. The end of our first half of season was very busy and frankly, I wasn't feelin it.

Starting November 4 we had what felt like non-stop games matches. 4 games in 6 days including two back-to-back, the Suomen Cup, our first round of EuroCup play. In those four games we went 3-1, losing to OrPoa at their gym. The semi-final matches for the Suomen Cup were also part of that group. In the first round we rolled WoVo, playing very much in rhythm. When we play in sync at a consistent high-level it's very exciting for me, it shows me that we have so much potential still to tap into. In the semi-finals match we played a tired OrPo, the same team we played earlier in the week and lost to. This match was VERY emotional due to our rivalry, my club being Suomen Cup defending champs, and truly SHITTY refs making some obscene calls. Their attempt to try and control the intensity of the game only made it more heated. I attempted to control my American style of play but he struck too many nerves and a lot of not so nice words were said during the match, but after a tough fight and 60 swings, we got the W and that's all that matters. Oddly, however, the final match won't be until the second weekend of January against none other than LP Viesti. Ready to finally show this team what we're capable of doing.

The rest of November wasn't very good. I'm not sure if we got complacent after our big win or if we peaked too early physically and everyone was running on fumes. We went on to lose our next 4 matches, two in league and two EuroCup matches versus Vasaa from Budapest, Hungary. Being able to play in a EuroCup match alone was an awesome experience. I've never played I'm a gym SO loud that I was unable to hear my teammate next to me. Horns, drums, chants, and an extremely echoing gym made for an awesome, yet terrible, playing atmosphere. Going into our first match we didn't know much the opponent at all. A good friend of mine from FSU played for the team, it was so nice to see a familiar face. Besides her tendencies the rest was unknown but quickly discovered. Like most EuroCup teams, they're outside dependent and are able to sustain a high-level of play for a long time -- our weakness. We ended up getting swept in 3 and myself not playing how I wanted, I played outside of myself and tried to do too much. The following week we played our second match -- you have to win both to advance to the next round -- this time we showed a better face but Vasaa's experience at a higher level gave them an advantage. As I've mentioned in earlier posts, our league has a very fast turnaround time for matches, after the EuroCup match on a Wednesday we concluded November with probably one of the worst games we've played versus Pieskamäki. The game just sucked. Everyone was in a crappy mood before we left for the match, we all played lethargic, we all tried to do too much to make up for areas we were normally successful, it was just bad. After the match we had a "come to Jesus" talk, hoping to acknowledge our poor performance and understand it's not acceptable, duh, but more importantly to get everyone back on the same page and focused on our next match.

December was a better month for our team, only four matches stood between us and a much needed Christmas break. First up: Phitipudas aka the team that two girls from my conference play for meaning I wasn't looking to take an L. The game was fantastic! It looked as though our talk had reenergized all of us, all the gears were turning smoothly. Second on the chopping block: Pieskamäki who we had lost to a week prior. Revenge seems to work as our motivator as we were able to beat them properly this time. Our only lost during this month was against OrPo, again. With the exception of the semi-finals match we just can't seem to get it together when we play them. Their team is very dynamic, led by two versatile foreigners but they're beatable. Lastly, our match against HPK was a great way to end the first half of season. The match wasn't as emotional as I anticipated, both the crowd and players were oddly melancholy but our team was able to create some energy throughout the 5-set match. I played average, teams game planning better against me, four months of play starting to have an affect. Other teammates stepped up, Hanna especially balled out. She's a smaller outside but plays with a beach mentality, which makes her a pain to play against. So many tools in her toolbox. The win was definitely needed and appreciated before holiday break.

At this point in the season my playing seemed to have level off. Although not acceptable, I'm attributing my average performance to my physical status: exhausted. I've never played this much in a season, this far into December, with such a pivitol role on a team. Sure I had my fair share of sets in college but I was always the accessory to the main event. It's a foreign expectation but I gladly welcome it, a great opportunity to work on my mental game and exercise those extra 30-hours I spent getting my Master's in Sport Psychology. Thankfully, our GM informed the team that we will have another "American" joining the team after Christmas!! The amount of thankfulness and relief I felt was overwhelming lol. Her name is Rosie, she's from Venezuela, played at Arkansas for two years?, and was also the youngest player at the 2008 Olympics. Obviously she's a boss and I can't want to officially meet her as a teammate and not an opponent.

So that wraps up my first half of season as a professional volleyball player! At this point I am still loving Finland and this opportunity. I am really looking toward to grinding these last three months: two months of season and March beings playoffs.

Time for me to enjoy some time off. Peace out 2013!!
